Black N Blue Bowl 2017 photos

Yet another BNB Bowl took place, this time at Webster Hall, with an outstanding lineup of NYHC legends, and some new(ish) HC bands worth seeing live. Black N Blue Bowl tradition started way back in the late 80's when it was called the SuperbowlOf Hardcore. I remember 1990 the Giants played the Bills in the Super Bowl, and the HC Superbowls were played in both NYC and Buffalo, with Agnostic Front, Sick Of It All, Biohazard and Zero Tolerance.

Check out the photos I captured, I had a blast, and look forward to this every year.

Fire and Ice are one of the best new hardcore bands out there today. They played some new stuff, and it was kinda Quicksand-ish, and really, really good. I am stoked for this new record, Frequency.

Maximum Penalty rocked a solid set. Last time I saw these dudes, was at a tattoo convention in Clifton park, NY. I remember I saw NYS Trooper hats descend into the pit, and walk up to the stage, and stop the show. I guess someone had gotten stabbed outside.

I got to see Token Entry last summer at Tompkins Square park, twice in a year is a blessing. The dogpile during their set was one for the ages.

DOGPILE!!

Gorilla Biscuits ended the night, playing what seemed like their entire catalog. Civ did a lot of positive pep talk between songs, I think he actually thanked the people that do things like recycle, and take care of the enviroment, (for our youth-the future of HC.)
At one point Civ explained, (before they played 'New Direction'), that all the band members have daughters now, and that hardcore is moving into a new direction of being more female inclusive. This hit home for me, being a soon-to-be father of a baby girl, come this summer.
